Political Specific Guidelines

Political advertising includes ads for political parties, individual political candidates, political organizations, political issues, political/issue fundraising.

Political advertising shall be considered a restricted category on Teads Inventory that must comply with any requirements set forth by Teads as well as the local laws and regulations of where the advertisement shall be displayed. Teads reserves the right to deny any advertisement under this category at any time.

Restrictions

Targeting for political ads may only be done with the following criteria: geographic location, age, gender or it may be done strictly contextually.

At this time, political advertisements may only be displayed in the United States.

Federal Election advertising in the US shall include any advertisement for a current office holder or a candidate for a federal office.

State election advertising shall include a current office holder or candidate for a state level elected post. Election advertising in the US shall also include state-level ballot measures or propositions which will be on the ballot come election day.

Advertisements for merchandise that contains a political message or references any of the above advertising is not considered political or election advertising.

Requirements

Messages authorized AND financed by a candidate or that candidate’s campaign must include text identifying who paid for the message (Candidate). These messages must be present on both the advertising and the landing pages.

For messages authorized but not financed by a candidate must include text identifying who paid for the message as well as messaging stating that the candidate has approved the message. These messages must be present on both the advertising and the landing pages.

If a message is not authorized or financed by a candidate, the advertisement must include an explicit disclaimer stating the message is not authorized by the candidate as well as text stating who financed the advertisement. These messages must be present on both the advertising and the landing pages.

Individual US State Restrictions:

The following states have additional restrictions that must be followed by any advertiser:

Maryland

Advertising for ballot measures or propositions is not permitted.

Advertising for candidates running for state or local office are not permitted.

New Jersey

Advertising for ballot measures or propositions is not permitted.

Advertising for candidates running for state or local office are not permitted.

New York

Committees wishing to purchase ads for either ballot measures or state or local candidates must provide documentation proving the Committee is registered with the New York State Board of Elections.

Nevada

Advertising for ballot measures or propositions is not permitted.

Advertising for candidates running for state or local office are not permitted.

Virginia

Any political advertiser is required to provide certification that they are permitted under state and local laws to purchase or promote online political advertisements.

Washington

Advertising for ballot measures or propositions is not permitted.

Advertising for candidates running for state or local office are not permitted.
